Technically Day Two

Hi again.

So eventhough this is technically day two....I'm going to post about day one just in case something happened after I first posted. Yesterday nothing actually happened because I didnt go anywhere. Yes I know how pathetic it sounds not going out on a Friday night, but hey watching movies is nice too sometimes. I watched Whip It and Confessions of a Shopaholic and Paranormal Activity. I have to say the first and second were WAY better than the last.

Oh great its only day two and I've already started rambling about my plans. or lack of. I guess thats what happens when I don't go out.

I still did try to be as honest as possible at home even though I only interacted with my mom. "No thank you I don't want cottage cheese." "No I don't really want to make a salad." "Yes I just drank apple juice straight from the jug." "No I don't think that its gross." You know. The usual dinner time banter.

And it was even less eventful because my mom works nights so I was home. And I sat there being honest to myself. Curled up in blankets. How fun.

Well I am actually going out tonight. When my friends and I get really bored in our small town of 7,000 people we decide to get all fancy and have formal nights. The kicker is we really don't do anything out of the ordinary. We just do it in dresses and heel and maybe a button down shirt with a tie. Tonight we are going to hang out and watch one of my favorite movies: Rocky Horror Picture Show. (I definitely recommend this one!) So, yes, I should have plenty to say tomorrow.

As for right now I need to finish getting ready. Which in my case is finding some gum and maybe re-doing my pony tail.

See you tomorrow!

Let's Begin At The Beginning And Continue Till We're Finished

Hey there.

Just a few days ago I came to the conclusion that I should start a blog. And not just any old blog. I knew I didn't want to be one of those people just rambling about their day to day activities. I didn't want to be one of those people sitting in front of their computer screens in their underwear blogging just for the hell of it. No that is not me at all. I really think I have something meaningful to put out there and I wish to share it with everone on the world wide web.

So my idea is this: I'd like to start a social experiment about giving and recieving the truth. In my opinion I dont think that people are truly as honest as they can be. Therefore, I am going to say exactly how I feel for one whole semester while I am at school. (My second semester of college ends some time in May) I have given myself three rules to follow:

1) I will not be purposefully mean when I am telling the truth.
EX: Instead of saying "Oh my god you look so hideous today!" I could say "That outfit does not flatter you in my opinion." The latter is still the truth and the person I am speaking to will be less likely to leave the room crying.

2) I will not let this social experiment interfere with my education.
This means that I'm not going to be so blunt during class times because I have a hunch that my professors will see my frank responses as a tad disrespectful.

3) I will not withold any information about this experiment.
I plan on telling anyone who asks about the experiment or my behavior exactly what I am doing and why just so they are not caught off guard. This is purely for the sake of being polite.

After giving myself these three rules my plan for this blog is to document my interactions with people. I want to show how people react when they are given the truth even if it is not what they want to hear. Also I want to see exactly how truthful I can be. I think this going to be one of the toughest projects I've had but I'm prepared to do it.

To give a little background, I had an idea to start something like this after reading a book that my roommate owns. Its called postsecret. I did some research about it and I think the idea is completely fascinating. If you dont know what postsecret is I definitely recommend looking it up on youtube.com or going to the postsecret blog. Sadly I do not know the url off the top of my head but I bet you can google it. :) Also, recently I watched the movie "The Invention of Lying." This movie kind of took my idea to the extreme. The characters live in a world where everyone tells the truth. Athough in the movie no one seems to have a filter either. I definitely think that there is a difference between lying and keeping personal information to yourself. But hey I'm getting off track.

Anyway,I am starting this project today the first day of 2010 to start this year off with something exciting. And honest.

Well I'll be writing back again tomorrow on how things go. Here I go.

Sincerely,
Kate

oh ya. PS. I will be starting a "Truth of the week" section of my blog post every Sunday just for something to think about or a laugh for that week. I will put up the first couple until I have readers that wouldn't mind sharing their own. *hint hint* (that means you!) It will be a place for people to be honest and share a little bit of wisdom or how they feel. Don't worry you won't be criticized. Well, you might. A little. But purely for the sake of being honest. Just leave your "Truth of the Week" in a comment a couple days before the post so I have enough time to pick one for Sunday. Be sure to say something like "this is my truth" so i know what its for. I'm not a mind reader you know. Well thanks everyone. I hope I get some readers soon!!!
